my co-worker gave me a fossil from his trip in Wyoming! i've never seen a fossil before! he said this is from the Green River formation and is estimated
250 million years(correction, it's 50 million years) old! they have found some dinosaur bones in the same location too... check it out! Fossil Butte National Park in Wyoming.this picture shows the different layers that had accumulated on the fossil over time:
the actual fish fossil:
wow, i learned a lot about fossil today... for example, the fossil that you actually find aren't the original "bones", but had been replaced by minerals. my goodness... i had no idea. (kinda like that uncle in sunday school didn't know hens lay eggs regardless the presence of a rooster).
cathy, if you ever want to show the fossil to your kids in bio class, let me know!

whoa how big is it? those are expensive!
i won't be needing them this year b'cus i only teach cell bio and genetics~
@beliftedup - it's probably about 5" in length and 2.5" in width. nah, it's not expensive. there's plenty where it came from.... you can see it here: http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/tertiary/eoc/greenriver.html i guess this fish was called "Knightia". it's pretty interesting though!
Once Cathy shows to the kids, you girls don't keep hope have it back in a complete piece XP
